Julia and Manuel’s wedding in Verona: a church ceremony, portraits in Giusti Garden and a poolside celebration at La Magioca, ending with dinner by candlelight.
Julia and Manuel’s wedding in Verona brought together a church ceremony in the city, portraits in Giusti Garden and a celebration at Relais La Magioca. They are both fashion designers, and their eye for clothes, colour and atmosphere ran through the whole day. Yet what we remember just as clearly is the laughter, the dogs wandering around the pool and the pleasure of being together.
We first met Julia and Manuel at a wedding in Warsaw. They connected with our photographs and the way we worked, and later invited us to photograph their own celebration in Italy. Their invitation already suggested how much thought they were putting into the day. This is a story from our archive, and one we still return to for its combination of personal style and unguarded moments.

The preparations took place at Relais La Magioca, near Negrar. From there, everyone travelled into central Verona for a midday church ceremony. Moving between the quieter surroundings of the villa and the city gave the opening part of the story two very different settings.
For us, photographing a destination wedding means paying attention to those changes without losing sight of the people. There are preparations, journeys and small exchanges between the planned events. Keeping them in the story helps the photographs bring back the experience of the day, as well as its most recognisable moments.

After the ceremony, we made a short portrait session in Giusti Garden. The midday sun and intense heat made it a very different experience from a leisurely evening walk. We had around ten minutes for the couple’s photographs, so we worked with the light and the setting while keeping the session brief.
That balance matters to us. Portraits can have a place in a documentary wedding story without taking the couple away from their guests for a long time. Here, the garden gave Julia and Manuel a distinct setting before everyone returned to La Magioca for the poolside reception.

Back at La Magioca, the atmosphere became relaxed and playful. Dogs moved among the guests, laughter travelled around the pool and the pace of the day changed. These are the situations in which we follow what is happening, staying ready for the unexpected instead of arranging it.
Julia also had a specific idea for the group photographs: a garden scene with the feel of a Dolce & Gabbana editorial. We brought additional lighting equipment so that we could respond to the conditions on the day. While Dorota continued photographing the pool party, Michał prepared the lighting for the family photographs. It was a different way of working within the same story, shaped by an idea that mattered to the couple.

The celebration had two distinct chapters, including a change into evening clothes for dinner. Julia told us that the decorations had been designed according to their own ideas. We photographed those details and made a brief set of medium-format portraits before the evening continued.
Speeches, food and another round of group photographs followed. Later, dinner in the garden was lit by candles. Preserving that atmosphere mattered more than making every scene look evenly illuminated. The resulting photographs follow the changing light and mood of the celebration, from the bright afternoon to the quieter warmth of the evening.
