Wedding in Portugal | Caroline & Justin

Childhood summers, a proposal and a wedding in the Algarve. Caroline and Justin’s Portugal story, from a church ceremony in Estoi to an unforgettable Irish dancefloor.

Caroline and Justin’s wedding in Portugal brought their friends and family to the Algarve, a place already woven into their story. Caroline had spent her childhood summers here, and Justin had chosen Portugal for his proposal. Returning to get married made this much more than a beautiful destination: it was a place full of memories, ready for a new one.

Their day took us from preparations to a church ceremony in Estoi, then on to a reception at Parrilla Natural. It was exceptionally hot, with fans in constant use and everyone looking for a little shade. What stays with us, though, is the warmth between people: the anticipation, the embraces and an Irish dancefloor that kept the energy going.

A wedding in Portugal with a personal connection

We decided to get married in Portugal as it’s where I spent my summers as a child and where Justin proposed. I was so happy that Dorota and Michal agreed to be part of our big day as they had photographed a friend’s wedding and I absolutely love their work.

That connection gave the photographs their starting point. We wanted to follow the day as it unfolded, leaving room for the people around Caroline and Justin and for the small, unplanned moments between the main events. A destination wedding brings everyone into a different setting, but the relationships remain at the centre of the story.

The ceremony in Estoi

The church in Estoi was the setting for their vows. Outside, the Algarve was in the middle of a heatwave. Even the locals we spoke to across from the church remarked on the summer heat. Fans became part of the day’s visual story, practical little details that now bring the feeling of that afternoon back into the photographs.

The day itself was a heat wave at 37 degrees, but everyone was so good about it, and the fans that you can see in some of the pictures definitely came in handy!

An Algarve reception at Parrilla Natural

After the ceremony, the celebration moved to Parrilla Natural. Its shaded corners offered a welcome pause before the evening gathered pace. The team at Algarve Wedding & Events helped with the logistics, allowing us to concentrate on what was happening in front of the cameras.

For us, photographing a wedding in Portugal means paying attention to both the setting and the people within it. A wide view can describe where everyone has travelled to; a closer frame can hold a fleeting reaction that only their family will fully recognise. Together, those photographs tell a fuller story than either could alone.

An Irish dancefloor in Portugal

The local band brought everyone together again as the reception turned into a party. We stayed with the movement, the laughter and the guests’ reactions. Caroline’s favourite photographs included these dancefloor moments, where the formality of the ceremony had given way to a very different kind of energy.

I think that some of my favourite pictures from the day are taken of our guests on the dancefloor. The Irish love to cut a rug, and I think that’s captured perfectly in the wonderful images created by Dorota and Michal.

A few words from Caroline

On top of being amazingly talented photographers, they are such a wonderful couple and really were such a great part of our day. If you are lucky enough to have them photograph your own big day, I don’t doubt that you will love the results, just as we do! Thanks so much guys, C&J xxx
