Wedding in Granada | Danusia & Timmy

Danusia and Timmy brought family and friends from around the world to Granada for a church ceremony, garden portraits and a celebration overlooking the Alhambra.

Danusia and Timmy’s wedding in Granada brought family and friends from several continents to southern Spain. A church ceremony in the heart of the city, garden portraits and a reception overlooking the Alhambra made a setting with meaning for the couple. This story from our archive follows the people and the atmosphere of their celebration, from separate morning preparations to a party that lasted until sunrise.

We already knew Danusia’s family. We had photographed her sister’s wedding in Warsaw, and that experience was the beginning of the connection that brought us to Granada. Returning to photograph another family celebration meant recognising familiar faces while discovering a very different place.

Why they chose a wedding in Granada

At the time of the wedding, Danusia and Timmy lived in London. Danusia had grown up there, while Timmy grew up in Melbourne. Their guests would be travelling from places including Melbourne, São Paulo, Singapore and Warsaw. They wanted a destination that would make the journey feel worthwhile and give everyone somewhere memorable to spend time together.

Granada was already part of their story. Danusia had spent her Erasmus year in the city, and the couple had returned for long weekends. Its history and Andalusian culture helped make the decision. To organise the celebration from abroad, they worked with Theresa Guthrie at AWOL Granada, who could handle details locally while they planned from London.

Two mornings, two perspectives

Danusia got ready at Hotel Casa 1800 with her bridesmaids and mother. Timmy prepared with his ushers at Hotel Carmen del Cobertizo. The hotels, both described by the couple as converted Renaissance mansions, gave the preparations a sense of place before anyone set off for the ceremony.

Dorota stayed with Danusia, while Michał photographed Timmy. Working separately at this point let us follow both sides of the morning. The photographs bring those experiences back together, including moments each of them would otherwise only hear about afterwards.

Danusia found her Claire Pettibone Chantilly dress during a visit to her sister in Copenhagen. A spontaneous stop at a bridal shop led her to a sample dress with the lace back she loved. Timmy chose a bespoke blue suit from Gresham Blake. These details belonged to their own decisions and discoveries, rather than a single prescribed wedding style.

A church ceremony and time in the garden

The ceremony took place at Iglesia de San Gil y Santa Ana. In their account of the day, the couple remembered the colours of the church and how they appeared in the photographs. We have kept that memory at the centre of this part of the story, alongside the people gathered around them.

After the ceremony, Danusia and Timmy set aside time for portraits in a garden before rejoining their guests. It was a change of pace between the service and the reception. A short chapter together can sit naturally within a wedding report, while the wider sequence keeps the family, friends and shared celebration in view.

La Chumbera, the Alhambra and a night of celebration

The reception at La Chumbera looked towards the Alhambra. With friends and family together after their journeys, the evening became about food, music and dancing. Monkey Tennis Band provided the live music, and Nerine Arte Floral created the flowers and decorations.

The couple described eating, drinking and dancing until sunrise. That ending says more about the atmosphere than a list of formalities could. For us, a wedding in Granada was also a chance to follow the story beyond the ceremony and portraits, into the reactions, movement and encounters of the party.

Danusia and Timmy on our photographs

Our day would not have been the same without having Michał & Dorota with us, they captured the day absolutely perfectly. All our friends and family have commented on how the wedding photos are the best they’ve seen. It was definitely one of the best decisions we made towards our wedding and we couldn’t be happier.
